There's a kind of quiet you only get on a Minnesota lake in the morning. I've been chasing it for years.
A northern pike and a good day on the water.
Fishing is the opposite of everything else I do. Teaching runs on bells and periods. Writing runs on deadlines. Out on the water, the clock just stops. It's me, the lake, and whatever decides to bite — and honestly, the biting is only half the point.
This page exists partly because of an ongoing mission: finding the right lake cabin in northern Minnesota. Somewhere with real water, a dock, and mornings like the one in that photo. The search is half the fun — checking lake depths, mapping the drive, arguing with myself about staircases. When the cabin happens, this page gets a lot more interesting.
Trip reports, ice fishing plans, and whatever the next season brings. The North Woods have a way of filling pages on their own.
